Dealing With Incompetent Building Inspectors
By Greg Vanden Berge

You're going to have problems with any business and construction is no different.
There are extremely competent people who can make your life wonderful and then, there are at the incompetent ones who consider themselves to be professionals.
We all know how to handle the competent ones, so let's find out how we can deal with the incompetent ones.

Dealing with incompetent building inspectors can be a homeowner’s worst nightmare and worst yet, it can cost you a lot of time and money. If you've worked in the construction business as long as I have, you would have run into quite a few incompetent building inspectors and there's not a whole lot that you're going to be able to do with them.

The best advice that I could give anyone who is dealing with an incompetent building inspector, would be to show them as much compassion and consideration as possible. They could be right out of a building inspector school and are willing to learn, but they're not going to be willing to be made fun.

Any errors that these building inspectors make, can be corrected with a little compassion and understanding. Explain your problem to the building inspector without getting upset and if the inspector gets upset, try to calm them down and make sure that you don't lose your temper.

This is usually the best way to handle this type of problem, but sometimes it doesn't work. If you're building inspector becomes too difficult to work with, it wouldn't be a bad idea to contact their supervisor and explain the situation. Again, don't get upset or you could find yourself with more problems than you ever thought of.

I hope you've got a clear picture now in front of you about how to deal with an incompetent building inspector. You must not lose your temper, show some compassion and don't let them get the best of you. You're doing your job, to the best of your ability and usually they are to.
