| There is a building
code that says you can have a 42 inch tall guardrail. Within the first
34 inches of height, you shouldn't be able to pass a 4 inch sphere
through any part of the guardrail, (standard guardrail building codes)
but between 34 and 42 inches in height off of the floor, landing or
stair tread nosing, it allows you to use an 8 inch sphere, instead of a
4 inch sphere.
The picture above is a good example of what I'm talking about. Remember,
this isn't a common method used for constructing handrails and you
should always check with your local Building and Safety Department,
before designing or building anything.
