A basement is located underneath some homes. I live in
California and we just don't have very many homes with basements.
They're popular throughout the Midwest and Eastern United States.
If you have a basement, there's a good chance that you're going to have
a stairway that will lead you from the lower floor of the home, into it.
Some basement stairs in older homes should be replaced, if they are in
bad shape. Some of these stairs have suffered from years of neglect.
A basement is usually a large utility room, that's roughly the same size
as the first floor of the house. Because these rooms are located
underground, it's not uncommon to find water leaking through the
concrete walls.
This usually happens on older homes, but could be a problem on newer
ones.
