It's important to have enough distance between the ceiling and anyone's
head, who will be walking up and down the stairs.
The biggest problems with stairway design and
construction is an insufficient ceiling height. Have you ever walked
down a stairway and came close to or actually hit your head on the
ceiling?
These are problems that you need to be aware of, when designing and
building stairs.
Stairway Tips: If you're having a difficult time, designing a set of
stairs around a low ceiling, it wouldn't be a bad idea to draw the
stairway, on a piece of paper, to scale.
Whatever you do, make sure that you work this problem out, before
building the stairway or framing the floor. This was a problem that I
ran into while remodeling, building room additions and even new homes.
