Fascia is often referred to in the building industry as a
piece of wood trim, surrounding the perimeter of a roof, balcony, deck
or stairway. It can also be painted or stained.
The most common use for fascia board in the home
building industry today, is used around the perimeter of a roof. This
term can also be used to represent a wood band around a column or post.
You're rarely going to find a piece of fascia on an interior stairway.
Most finish carpenters will refer to it as a wood band or trim. Like
many other words in the construction industry, there's usually more than
one word used by professionals, to describe each process, method or
parts use for a building.
