Housed Stringer - Parts Of Stairway

A housed stringer is used in a set of stairs that uses a routered out 1 x 12 piece of hardwood or softwood. The stair builder will router out each side of the stair stringer and then install the risers and treads, working their way up to the top of the stairs.

Most of the stairs that I have installed in the past used notched stair stringer's. Stairways that use notched stair stringer's are usually easier to build.

I will find a picture as soon as possible and provide you with more information.
