Painting Staircase

If you're planning on painting your staircase, plan on spending a little time, on the project. Some stairways are going to be difficult to paint, while others are going to be "extremely difficult paint."

I can't tell you how many times I've ran across a set of stairs on the outside of a building that needed more paint. On the inside, where the stairway is protected from the elements, this won't be as big of a problem as it will be, on the outside.

Hot and cold temperatures, along with a little rain, snow or direct sunlight can reduce the longevity of your stairway, whether it's built out of wood or metal.

Stair Painting Tips

1. Pre-paint the stair parts, before you assemble them. This method works fantastic for exterior stairways or stairs that are going to require multiple colors.

2. Paint the entire stairway. It's hard to imagine, but water or moisture will soak into an unpainted surface, easier and faster than one that is painted. Moisture over time will damage wood and metal.

3. Use the right paint. High-gloss, gloss and even semi gloss paints create slippery surfaces on your stair steps and should be avoided at all costs.

I already mentioned this in the previous step, but if you missed it, because you are skipping ahead, well that's okay, don't worry about it, I got you covered. It wouldn't be a bad idea to contact a painting contractor or paint supply store for more information about painting your stairway.

Some of these people can provide you with excellent methods and materials at no charge.
