Painting the face of the riser and about an inch and a
half of the stair tread is a good idea, especially in a situation like
the picture above. Sometimes concrete steps are difficult to notice and
can become a safety hazard.
If you're young and your vision is good, you might not have any
difficulties navigating through a situation like this, but when you get
a little older or your vision isn't up to par, a nice painted section of
any stairway can be a blessing.
Special Note: Avoid using high-gloss or even semi gloss paint in a
situation like this. Most glossy paints are slippery when wet and can
become a safety hazard. Contact your local paint supplier for more
information about which types of paints to use.
Attention: Don't forget to check with your local
building department to verify any building codes on this website. This
information could be incorrect or outdated. Building codes are updated
regularly and to some building departments have different
interpretations for certain building codes.
