2 x 10 stair stringers are not the best choice for building
stairs. If the stairs are only 3 to 5 steps and the stringers
are cut carefully so that there aren't any knots or cracks in
this 5 to 6 inch area creating a weak spot. This would be ok but
not recommended. Use a 2
x 12 stair stringer as a minimum for safety.
